Our rollbar is not the Hard Dog bar and was out several months before the Hard Dag product. We have actually lifted our Z3 off the ground by the Rollbar using the lift in our shop! With the mounting points used you would most likely be far better off with our bar than the factory hoops and probably better than with most sedans.

: : Bruce,
: : Unless you are an engineer and have done an analysis of our HMS rollbar and its mounting points (two of which are the primary ones that BMW uses for its rollhoops) I suggest that you might not say the bar is "cosmetic".

: : If you checkout or website you will see a Finite Element Analysis of the bar which clearly shows that it will support more than the weight of the car. The bar increases the rigidity of the overall chassis by at least 15%. Derek Daly Driving Academy looked at our bar design and PURCHASED them for the Z3 cars for the Z3 Drivers School program instead of building custom bars as they normally do.

: : I would be happy to discuss any of the technical issues of our bars design that make it much more than cosmetic.

: I am not an engineer, but the mounting points on your roll bar (really Hard Dog) are not confidence inspiring IMO. I don't consider the factory bars to be any better. I wouldn't want to end up upside down with either the factory bars or the HMS bar. The strength of the bar is only (at most) half the story, the mounting points are just as important if not more so.

: Guess we really won't know until (heaven forbid) a Z rolls with one.
