Joust with the Dragon
Join a group of Z3 enthusiasts as they travel from the birthplace of the Z3 to the lair of the Dragon. This eXXXtreme drive will make its way from the Spartanburg BMW plant at 8 am on August 7th and traverse across two states to take on the Dragon in Tennessee. This drive will take on some of the Best Roads in the South Eastern United States according to Car and Driver, not to mention the Dragon itself. The Dragon, a legendary road among motorcycle and car enthusiasts, consists of 318 curves in an 11 1/2 mile stretch.
Some of the sites participants will view along the drive are the new BMW Performance Center, Table Rock, Lake Jocassee, the Highlands of North Carolina, which include Bridal Veil Falls and Bust your Ass falls, and the Fontana dam . We will enjoy a B.Y.O.B. (Bring Your Own Basket) lunch in the shadow of the 480' tall Fontana dam, the tallest dam East of the Rockies. At this time, we plan to arrange the cars for a unique group photo, using the dam as a backdrop. Be sure to bring your own camera to capture this moment on film. We will then proceed to the Dragon for the ride of your life. After the ride you will have the opportunity to purchase your Dragon sticker to proclaim to the world you challenged the Dragon and survived. We will then take a few minutes to visit the top of Fontana dam before heading on our journey home to Spartanburg. This drive will include over 180 miles of twisties and over 100 miles of highway driving. This is an All Day drive, over 300 miles in all.
