Those of you who have read the message board more than once know that I started advertising my 97 Z3 1.9 last September in order to buy a new Z3 2.3. This morning I delivered my Z3 to it's happy new owner who responded to my ad in last week-end's Washington Post. Since I am sure you are all interested in the selling price I am now happy to share the details with you.

I purchased the car new from Heishman BMW in Arlington, VA on October 11, 1996. It was their first 97 Z3 delivered from Spartanburg where it had been produced on October 8, 1996. My car was ordered with all options available in Oct, 96 except for the automatic transmission that I did not want. The car was ordered with AST, OBC, heated seats & mirrors, metallic paint (Atlanta Blue) and beige leather interior and beige top. Total MSRP was $32,420 and the selling price was $30,200, which represents a $2,220 discount from MSRP. Heishman also gave me a set of floor mats. Maryland 5% sales tax, title, and tag fees added some $1,650 to the above for a drive away cost of $31,850.00.

Today I sold the car for $25,700 after some 29 months and 5,151 miles. Thus the depreciation amounted to $4,500 which works out to $155 a month or $0.87 per mile. Total maintenance cost was $71.86 for two in-between oil changes at 1,564 and 2,800 miles. All other maintenance was covered by BMW's "free maintenance" plan. Total cost for gasoline for the 5,151 miles has been $274.00 to date or $0.0535 per mile. Insurance has been $488 per year or $40.67 per month. All this adds up to a total cost of $7,675.29 which is $265 per month or $1.49 per mile.

I invite others to share this same kind of information for the benefit of all the other readers of the message board. All in all I can say that I am very happy with the economic consequences of Z3 1.9 ownership.

I will be placing my order with Heishman BMW in Arlington, VA in a few days for a July, 1999 delivery of a 2000 MY Z3 2.3.

Good Bye to my '97 E36/7 Z3 1.9 Atlanta Blue, beige/beige, Maryland tag:

9 Maryland 00
Z3

PS: There are 30 Z3's of one model or another advertised in today's Washington Post. Only two of these are by private owners. I was one of the two.
