My 2001 X5 4.4 failed to start on Monday 28th. It was towed to the dealer at around 10AM. I was told I fell into the regular service schedule and would not receive a diagnosis for 2 - 4 days. Not loaners were available so I rented a car expecting to get the car back around today.

I just called and I was told that Friday would most likely be the earliest my car could get diagnosed and Monday was probably the expected date I would be it back. I was told there is a known problem with low temperatures and the cargo area mounted CD changer draining the battery. Indeed the car seemed have a dead battery. The fix would be a software update and battery charge.

Is this typical? This means I will be stuck paying 7 or more days of rental car fees for a known problem that seems straightfoward. Am I getting shafted here?
