My mechanic at my BMW dealer told me all BMW's brakes are cooled by air flowing from the inside to the outside of the car, and so the brake dust is sucked to the outside and will evidently stick on the rims. Some car makers do the opposite, resulting in less brake dust but this seems to be also less efficient in cooling the discs.

While I do not know a magic solution for brake dust, on my Z3 it helps a lot if I wax the rims at least every month or so. A simple wash with water and soap is all I need to terminate with the brake dust.
