I will have a more definite answer Tuesday, when I accept delivery of my X5 & also that very question was asked of myself to my salesperson and he assures me that he'll have a answer then. From what I understand, the current model (cpt 7000) does not allow this possible. The new model (cpt 8000), available in February '01 & also it's predecessors replacement, does not differ in that many ways, however, I believe caller ID may be one of the few differences. I believe this was due to a very high demand for this option. I, coincidentally, broke my cellular (actually my girlfriend broke it - another story), & I called my salesperson in request for possibly an early availability on the cpt 8000 (hand unit). I was told that you cannot purchase the phone without the entire installation, as it functions in conjuction with the software installed along with current plumbing already existing within the vehicle. I will tell that they were willing to offer somewhat of an accomodation, given my ultimate objective which is to obtsin the latest cellular phone offered, but not available. They are going to allow installation of the old version (cpt 7000) install the new software relative to the cpt 8000 (apparently they are compatible) & when the new phones arrive swap them out & no charge. You may want to inquire within at you dealership. Sorry to be so long winded!!!
